Sulphur is a key nutrient for mustard and is directly linked with higher oil content, better seed filling, stronger plant growth, and higher yield. Mustard has one of the highest sulphur requirements among field crops.
Benefits of Sulphur in Mustard
- Increases oil content by 3–5%Improves seed size, seed filling, and test weight
- Enhances protein formation (cysteine & methionine)Strengthens immunity and reduces fungal diseases
- Promotes dark green leaves and vigorous branching.
Recommended Dose of Sulphur 80% WDG for Mustard
- Basal Dose (Most Important)
- Apply 8–10 kg/acre of NS Sulphoshield 80 (Sulphur 80% WDG) as basal before sowing.
- This provides 6.4–8 kg of available sulphur per acre, meeting the majority of the crop’s requirement.
- Application Method
- Broadcast uniformly during final land preparation
- Mix well with soil using a rotavator or last ploughing
- Top Dressing (If Deficiency Appears After 25–30 DAS)
- When mustard shows sulphur deficiency (yellowing of young leaves, poor flowering):
- Apply 4–5 kg/acre of Sulphur 80% WDG as a corrective dose.
3. Follow with a light irrigation for better absorption.
Do Not Apply as Foliar Spray
